Combining the production of biofuels with food security
vin2food is making a contribution to sustainable production of bioethanol and helping improve global food security. In aquaculture, too, the project will play an important role in the future.
Alongside the use of vinasse as a nutritional substance for the cultivation of Artemia, zooplankton and microalgae, vin2food also offers another benefit by cleaning the process water produced during the vinasse process. In this process, the inorganic salt content is reduced and the residual yeast removed, allowing the water to be reused for further processes. In addition to this, the CO2 emissions from the bioethanol production process can be included in the cultivation of microalgae and thereby contribute to carbon dioxide fixation.
